Vasque US Trail Running Team

Debbie had a fabulous year running the trails in 2008. She met all of her goals, culminating with her first completed 100 miler in November. It was a great capstone to the season. This year is a year of transition as we expand our family, but she is still running. Of course, she doesn’t have to run long to remain active in the trail and ultra communities. She is Race Director of the upcoming Soapstone Mountain Trail Races and President of the Shenipsit Striders. She even managed 4th at Bimbler’s Bash last weekend. It was a short one, but that is OK. She plans to run throughout the spring and summer. Northern Nipmuck, at 16 miles, will be a test this Saturday.

She is especially excited about this year because she is one of five members of the inaugural Vasque US Trail Running Team. She joins Krissy Moehl (Bend, Oregon), Duncan Callahan (Gunnison Colorado), Shiloh Mielke (Asheville, North Carolina) , and Bryan Dayton (Boulder, Colorado). Vasque is a long time supplier of boots and footwear for mountaineering, hiking, and backpacking. They are making a stronger push into trail running. Deb likes the shoes and is fired up about helping promote Vasque through her running escapades. I’m anxious to try a pair myself.

That's a serious Mexican pool party outside my hotel room! I'm in town to focus on #precisionmachining and NOT swimming. The irony is that when I'm usually here, I'm the only one who swims. After a 6 hour flight and 6 hour drive, nice sunset. #horstengineering #shenipsitstriders summer picnic after the Soapstone Assault Trail Race. #trailrunning Heavy rain didn't dampen spirits. #taekwondo belt test "breaking." It took a few more tries to snap the 3rd board but he passed. #starspangledbanner playing prior to belt testing at U.S. #taekwondo #threadrolling a simple .250-28 UNF-2A screw for a rare non-aerospace application. This is for an industrial product. These were turned to pre-roll thread pitch diameter rather than centerless ground because of the wide open tolerances. These blanks were customer supplied. #horstengineering I think I'll run 101.5 miles, drive/fly/drive home, and then do a triathlon to accelerate my recovery. #trt100 #tahoerimtrail100 The #tahoerimtrail100 #trt100 awards ceremony was cancelled due to the unprecedented storm that is rolling through. Thankfully all runners had finished before the violent rain, hail, and lightning hit around 2:30 P.M. With 90 minutes to go before cutoff. I tracked down Debbie's drop back during the tempest, placed an order at the burrito truck, and also got her buckle. It wasn't ready, so they made it while I waited in the driving rain. I would have preferred a sunny ceremony by the lake. But this was an EPIC finish to an EPIC week. Wow! Debbie finished in 27:19ish. It was a tough race (understatement) but she got it done with support from pacer, Daniel Roy, her crew, family, and friends. So good to come back a year later and finish what she started in 2013. Thanks for following my posts. She and I will have full race reports later in the week and I have much better photos to share. The iPhone can only do so much, but it still is one heck of a journalistic tool. #tahoerimtrail100 #trt100 #pursuitstrong #horstengineering #teamhorstsports #teamlivingston Debbie weighing in back at Tunnel Creek AS after the 6 mile Red House Loop. She is feeling "peppy" according to Dan. Ready to make a charge! Thru 67 miles in 17:32. #trt100 #tahoerimtrail100 #pursuitstrong #ultraspire #teamhorstsports
