VT50 Results & Aftershocks

Most of my friends who ran or rode the VT50 have sore legs today. Two days after is always the worst. “Delayed onset muscle soreness,” or DOMS as I like to call it, really hurts.

Whenever the VT50 is over, you keep your fingers crossed to make sure that we didn’t wear out our welcome with the landowners. Access to the trails are key, and it is the trails that make the race special. Hopefully, there was little litter (other than all those mountain bike numbers), not too much damage/erosion, and that everyone was courteous.

The results weren’t available when I first posted, but they are now available for the trail runs:

50 Mile

50 Kilometer

Aliza Lapierre did win the 50 mile race again in a nice sub-eight hour performance. As previously reported, Leigh Schmitt was the 50 mile men’s winner. Glen Redpath won the 50 kilometer race and Debbie Livingston was the women’s winner. As always, all of those who ran are winners because this is a challenging race.

It could be a while before we see results for the mountain bike event. I traded e-mails with the race leadership and it is clear that they recognize the seriousness of the number debacle, so there is no reason to pile on. My number fell off at the two mile mark, but I was able to grab it and stuff it under my shirt. Eventually, it turned into a tiny wad of mush. I would have needed a forensic scientist to read it. Thankfully, I remembered my number…86…see, I still remember. Most of the 600+ mountain bikers had the same issue. With all the moisture and mud, the paper numbers just disintegrated.

I vote that a larger share of the 2009 $125 entry fee should be devoted to the numbers and timing system. This race has gotten far to big for a manual system and it is time for the promoters to migrate to a chip timing system. Our running club, the Shenipsit Striders, had tons of issues at this year’s Soapstone Mountain Trail Race,  so we know how critical accurate timing is. We took a lot of heat for inaccurate and late results. Having instant results is expected in the internet age. No excuses.

I never post about food. However, this is the second time this week that I’m posting about food. These #vegan dishes at Empress by @theprivegroup were awesome. #instavegan #singapore Everything worked out fine for @trailrunningmom After a little stress, they had her race packet and bib number at the @metasprintseries venue and she kept it upright on the bike! 🚴🏽 She was very pleased with 2nd place 🏆 in her age group at her first road #Duathlon.🏃🏻There are no mountains ⛰ and there isn’t much singletrack in #singapore but it’s still a great city for endurance sports. It looked like there were more than 1,500 athletes at the 3K/18K/3K race with LOTS of kids too. Great vibe! #triathlonsg #teamhorstsports 🇺🇸 Our kids may recognize this great Shoppes @marinabaysands feature from six years ago. I had forgotten how cool it was. #singapore #marinabaysands First time on a road bike for @trailrunningmom In advance of her first ever road duathlon @metasprintseries I taught her some tips & tricks including the do's/don'ts of shifting strategy, cornering, blocking (not), drafting (not), passing, flying mount/dismount, etc. It was fun! Even though she was on a "rental" too, I couldn't keep up on my "steed." #triathlonsg #singapore #teamhorstsports @thecheryltan #cheryltan #singapore #singapore Name those tunes. 11-year-old Feng E is making a name for himself in Asia and beyond. #guitar #fenge #singapore 🎸 @trailrunningmom led #yoga at #ypoedge #singapore

@ypoglobal #yogini Tremendous #vegan dinner @metasingapore Without a heads up, Chef Sun and his team whipped up an amazing seven course + three “snacks” meal for @trailrunningmom and me, that was worthy of their @michelinguide star. We sat at the counter and watched every step in the process. Chef said that with advanced notice (of our diet), he “would have done better.” We appreciated his perfectionism, but it was just fine. #metarestaurant #instavegan #michelinguide #singapore
