Providence & Narragansett, Rhode Island

We made a short trip to Rhode Island this weekend so that I could compete in the Ironman 70.3 Rhode Island Triathlon. The 80 minute drive to Providence was uneventful but pleasant. Let’s hope that I-384 never replaces Route 6 as the main road to Providence. The weather was glorious, so we walked around a bit. I picked up my registration packet at the Rhode Island Convention Center. We checked out the race expo, then walked over to the second transition at Station Park. Providence has had some great re-development in recent years. Hartford, Connecticut should analyze why Providence has successfully revitalized its downtown.

Narragansett is a cool Rhode Island beach town. Fishermen’s State Park was booked solid, so we found other camping accommodations for the night. Our spot wasn’t far from the Block Island Ferry. The race started at Roger W. Wheeler State Beach, so we were fortunate to camp less than a mile away. On Saturday, we had an excellent dinner at Crazy Burger. We loved it. They have the largest selection of vegan burgers that we have ever seen. We were fortunate to have Googled vegetarian options before we left. Crazy Burger was the only selection. We are glad that we found it. Debbie returned for breakfast on Sunday. We had a crazy amount of rain and wind on Saturday night. Our VW Pop-Top was swaying in the breeze as the rain pitter pattered off the roof. It was a classic Rhode Island squall.
