Jacksonville & the Treaty Oak

Our Florida trip earlier in March was short but sweet. We accomplished the four things we set out to do. 1) spend time with family 2) visit St. Augustine 3) finish the Gate River Run, and 4) make a Horst Engineering customer visit. Everything went to plan and we even got to do a few other things too. The bonus was attending the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance. Another great thing was visiting the 250 year-oldΒ Treaty Oak in downtown Jacksonville.

Anytime you are in the presence of a 250-year-old tree, you should smile. I love seeing old growth. It is so rare nowadays, especially on the east coast. The Treaty OK was fantastic and it is right in downtown Jacksonville. The high rises are right behind this majestic tree. Let’s hope that it lives for another 250 years. The only downer was the old faded flag flying in the park. It needs to be retired and the pole deserves a new flag to fly proudly. My Uncle Bert is going to forward a photo to the city so that they know it is time for a successor flag. Blame it on the recession.
