Richard Busa, 80-Year-Old Inspiration

Richard Busa has been an inspiration to many on the New England Grand Tree Trail Running circuit. Beyond the trail running community, he has made his mark running on the roads, in ultras, and on the mountain running circuit. Yesterday, he achieved a new milestone by becoming the first 80-year-old to finish the NipMuck Trail Marathon. When we left the race (before the thunderstorm), we were worried about Richard, his pacer, Karen McWhirt, and the handful of other runners who were still on the course. However, they weren’t worried. When we saw Richard and Karen at the 12 mile mark, they said they were ready for any challenge.

Richard, with Karen’s support, finished the 26.4 mile trail race in 8:45:37. Run on Rich!

My daughter chose the hair piece, so I proved to her that I do have a sense of humor. #selfportrait

Good morning! 🚴🏽
I got to sample the fun activities at Boy Scouts @troop25ct Camp Kirkham. I slept under the amazing stars. We had a full agenda of geocaching, archery, cooking, disc golf, and paddling. I even squeezed in a run to the top of Silver Mountain where I had a 360 degree view. #boyscouts
It was great fun cheering for the Bolton Center School XC Team and their coach @trailrunningmom at The Panther Fest. Go Bulldogs! #crosscountry #trailrunning πŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈ πŸƒπŸΏ

It’s easy to love the infamous water (muck) crossing at the Trails to a Cure (Cockaponset Trail Race). We felt like sea monsters! I can’t believe how out of breath I was after fetching my camera at the finish and running the 1/4 mile back to catch @trailrunningmom and Shepard make their crossings. Either hey are getting faster or I am getting slower! Maybe more swim-run is in our future. πŸŠπŸ½β€β™€οΈπŸƒπŸ½β€β™€οΈ #shenipsitstriders #teamhorstsports #teamhorstjuniorsquad #blueblazedtrail #trailrunning
