CFPA Outdoor Gear Expo & Silent Auction

Today was the inaugural CFPA Outdoor Gear Expo & Silent Auction at Wesleyan University’s Fayerweather Beckham Hall in Middletown, Connecticut. The weather for the 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. event was fantastic. The campus was bursting with spring activity. When our family of four arrived, we were greeted with the melodious sounds of a cool little band jamming some Grateful Dead tunes. My son remarked, “I thought you couldn’t talk at a silent auction.”

The Connecticut Forest & Park Association is a fantastic not-for-profit organization and today’s event was a first ever expo fundraiser. Hopefully the financial outcome is a positive one, but one thing for sure, the vibe was great.  I am a member of CFPA’s Board of Directors. CFPA is an organization that is driven by a combination of dedicated staff and generous volunteers. Both groups were out in force at today’s expo.

Thanks to several retailers, including Eastern Mountain Sports, Trailblazer, North Cove Outfitters, REI, and Fleet Feet Sports, there were workshops, clinics, and displays on kayaking, running, cycling, hiking, fly fishing, wood carving, and other outdoor activities.

Fayerweather Beckham Hall is a beautiful building. CFPA is on a roll. We have been instrumental in the recent effort to restore liability protection to municipal properties. Our 825+ miles of Blue-Blazed Hiking Trails make Connecticut the best trail state in the nation. Our trail maintainers are the best in the business. We have lobbied to keep state parks open and fees low. And…we have our annual meeting coming up at Harkness Memorial State Park on 18 May.

Great article though, hope you would continue posting related articles about outdoor gear as I am honestly an enthusiast to knowing this as well… 🙂

Good day at #mountgreylock @trailrunningmom ran her 20th consecutive Mt. Greylock Trail Race. I did the 5K with the kids and then rode to the top. Trophies went to Deb and Shep. #trailrunning #cycling #shenipsitstriders #teamhorstsports 🏃‍♀️🚴🏽⛰ 🏆

Livingston Family firefighters. 🔥 👩‍🚒 🚒 When @trailrunningmom “smoked” the obstacle course AND added some push-ups for good measure, the Chief pulled out his business card and made a pitch for her to join the squad. I thought I was the competitive one, but she can turn anything into a competition! The kids had a blast too at family day.

REWARD: Less likely to be $1 billion and more likely to have hops 🍺 or grapes 🍷 in it. Best suited for those in CT. On Monday at the end of my #carfreecommute to @horsteng I realized I lost one of my two custom orange/black @dillpicklegear panniers on the way. Within an hour, I retraced every pedal stroke in reverse. My route was Bolton to Manchester to S. Windsor with sections of @eastcoastgreenway and #wickhampark The only item in the bag was a brand new @lifeproof iPhone 6s nuud case in Hot Pink. That’s another story, but it was on clearance and I got a deal! It was in the unopened mailer/package ADDRESSED TO ME. I rode the route again on #biketoworkday today and no luck. At this point it is going to have to find me. So sad. I still can’t believe I couldn’t find it which means someone has it. Maybe they are a #goodsamaritan But no luck yet. Keep your eyes peeled!
After a full day at the CFM( Safran and @geaviation ) supplier conference, I explored the emerald green urban oasis known as #burnetwoods The sights, sounds, and smells (other than the dead possum) were delightful. @cincyparks #trailrunning #cincinnati
