2012 Kids Who Tri Succeed Triathlon

Today, we returned to the Kids Who Tri Succeed Triathlon in Mansfield, Connecticut. Last year, this was our son’s first triathlon. He turned six last week, so this was a perfect way to celebrate. Mom (Debbie) and Dad (Me) took the day off from racing so that we could crew for our little guy.

Once again, the race had some dedicated sponsors, including Horst Engineering and the Hartford Extended Area Triathletes. Kids running races are fun to watch, but a kids triathlon is a feast for the eyes.

There were so many great moments and it was hard not to smile at all of the excitement. This is a super way to expose children to an active lifestyle. They got to experience all of the cool things that make triathlon a special sport. My favorite part of the event is the transitions. There is so much activity. The Mansfield Middle School venue is perfect for this race. The playground kept our almost three-year old occupied.

The race was for children ages 4 to 14 and the organizers sent them off in waves within their age group. Our son was in the second wave of the 4-6 year olds. He was quicker than last year, especially because he moved from a bike with 12 inch wheels to one with 20 inch wheels. It doesn’t matter, he was a happy camper.

Wow. That is some intensity on those kids faces.
